Winona Laura Horowitz who is professionally known by the name Winona Ryder was born in Winona Minnesota. The parents of her daughter named her the city she grew up in after her birthplace. Her father Michel Horowitz, and mother Cynthia Palmer are authors and editors. Ryder, who considers herself Jewish, is descended from Ryder's Jewish father. Ryder is the youngest sister of Uria who is half-sister to Jubal and Sunyata. Ryder's parents moved her and their children in Mendocino County California when Ryder turned seven. They didn't have electricity. The books on television were Ryder's only distraction to pass the time. Eventually, she began to read extensively. Ryder began taking acting classes when Ryder was twelve years old, and was enrolled in classes at the American Conservatory Theatre. In the year she turned 15, Ryder landed her very first role on the screen in Lucas. Ryder was bullied throughout her high school years. Her hope was that the acting profession would change the way she dealt with bullying. However, the plan didn't pan out. However, she pushed on with her dream. In 1988, it was in the year Tim Burton released Beetlejuice that gave her her first big break. Ryder kept playing successful roles in various films. He was nominated for two Academy Awards were nominated, one for The Age of Innocence (1996).
